My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire
in the vineyards of Engedi.
Engedie was an oasis hidden at the base of rugged limestone cliffs west of the Dead Sea. It was known for its fruitful palm trees and fragrant balsalm oil. The terrain surrounding Engedi was some of the most desolate in Palestine, and it had an extremely hot desert climate. Camphire was a flowering plant, probably the henna plant. Flowers at Engedi would have appeared all the more beautiful because of their stark surroundings, thus Solomon was complimenting his bride's beauty and comparing her favorably with the women she feared.

A desert is a dry, barren area of land, especially one covered with sand, that is characteristically desolate, waterless, and without vegetation. In the midst of this dry barren land these beautiful camphire flowers grew in clusters and had a beautiful fragrance. The summary says that the climate was very hot.
In comparison the refiner's fire is very hot but in the midst of the heat, my desert place, has turned into a beautiful garden of love. For it is there that the Lover of my Soul has been watering me, fertilizing me, cultivating me and in this text, has told me that I am cluster of camphire.
Like a tree standing empty in the winter without it's leaves, I was standing alone! But like a tree standing tall in the summer, full with it's leaves, (My Husband and our children), I am standing tall, full of God's love!
